Independent reinsurance broker MNK Re has broadened its expertise and global reach by appointing Simon Ashby (pictured above) as executive managing director and global chief commercial officer.

Ashby brings nearly 40 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industries, having held senior positions in both broking and underwriting. His career includes over a decade in Bermuda as managing director of Marsh FINPRO Bermuda.

In London, he served as managing director and chief underwriting officer of Gulf Insurance Company UK Ltd, part of the Travelers Group, and as CEO of Willis Global Solutions International. Most recently, Ashby was the co-founder and active underwriter of Verto Lloyd’s Syndicate 2689.

In his new role at MNK Re, Ashby will oversee various projects and initiatives aimed at driving revenue growth, with a particular focus on expanding the company’s presence in North America.

“Given Simon’s deep experience in both underwriting and broking across a range of business lines, he is the perfect fit for this new role,” said Manoj Kumar, CEO and managing director of MNK Group. “With his global network of contacts ranging from insurers and underwriters to clients, brokers and agents, Simon will be able to use his existing relationships to help us expand our global reach. I look forward to working with him on new initiatives to meet our growth ambitions in the years ahead.”

Ashby also noted MNK Re’s broad expertise across various business classes and its focus on providing tailored and innovative solutions for both traditional and emerging risks.

“The entrepreneurial culture at MNK Re is clear, and Manoj and the team have ambitious ideas and a vision for the future. With the business already providing insurance solutions in over 80 countries, I am delighted to be joining this global team as it continues to expand its presence across the world,” Ashby said.
